The charm of a small town Tobermory

23.05.2018

Canada is full of natural beauties that enthrall people all around the world. I am 100 % sure that everybody knows Niagara Falls, Great Lakes, Mount Logan or is at least aware of the big amount of natural parks which are spread all over this big state. However, in today's article I am going to focus on a less known place which (in my opinion) can certainly beat the famous ones with its splendid landscape. It is called Tobermory.

Tobermory is a very small community located at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. For clarification, it is 300 kilometres northwest from Toronto. Tobermory's nickname is "the freshwater Scuba capitol of the world", because of 22 shipwrecks which you can find in adjacent FANTHOM FIVE NATIONAL MARINE PARK.

When we talk about Fanthom Five there are also several rock formations in this location and just off the shore there is FLOWERPOT ISLAND. Flowerpot Island is named for two flowerpot-shaped stacks on its coast. This island is surprisingly good for hiking and also has many campining facilities.

Another national park in Tobermory's surroundings is BRUCE PENINSULA NATIONAL PARK. With its 156 square kilometres is one the largest protected areas in southern Ontario, forming the core of UNESCO'S Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve. Bruce Peninsula National Park offers lot of opportunities for many outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and bird watching.

In the area of this park is natural jewel named THE GROTTO. The Grotto is scenic cave containing a pool of crystal clear water, located on the Georgian Bay shoreline nearby the town Tobermory. It is a very popular attraction which is busiest during the summer and long weekends.

For the less adventurous and more lazy ones there are glass-bottomed boat tours which take you to these places so you don't have to go for a long walk- of course you should transport yourself to the port somehow, but that is everything. When you finally appear on a deck, you can just relax, enjoy the fresh breeze and be fascinated by the breathtaking view on surrounding countryside. The most known ferry in Tobermory and also in Ontario is MS CHI-CHEEMAUN. It takes you on a trip on which you can see beautiful Tobermory's natural sightseeings.

In Tobermory there are many of souvenirs shops and restaurants where you can go. The average price for a three-star hotel is in conversion about 2 400 czech crowns. If you will feel lost and will need some help, there are several information centres and tourists maps in the town, so there is no space for panic. The reason why I have chosen Tobermory is that I wanted to show you something really new and completely different from others. Personally, this not that bustling and not well-known places are sometimes so much better than the famous ones. I think they have some bigger sparkle in themselves and entertain us more, because they are not seen basically everywhere.

I hope I gave you some inspiration for your future travelings and that you have enjoyed reading my article. Let me know in comments if you want to go to Tobermory. And if not, tell me which another place you plan to see (if there is some of course).

See you soon! :)
